An Abortionist Retires
Or in other words: “The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” James 5:16
This week is a week to celebrate because Warren Hern, Boulder, Colorado's famous late-term abortionist has closed his clinic.
Hern has been performing abortions for over 55 years and on babies who are sometimes 34 weeks along. At that stage, the baby is considered a preemie and is almost fully developed. Also, an abortion at 34 weeks would be a long, three to four day procedure because of the size of the baby that is being destroyed.
Hern was a dangerous man because he was a True Believer. Since the 1970's he has viewed pregnancy as "abnormal" and a "medical problem" that needs fixing. He is not similar to serial killers or Nazi doctors because he doesn't seem to compartmentalize his killing side from his "normal life" side. Warren Hern really believes that in killing babies in their mother's wombs he is gently and lovingly caring for his one patient - the mother. Once you read his statement posted to his website regarding his clinic closing (below) you'll see that what I'm saying is true and hopefully you too will celebrate that this repulsive man (at least for now) is done taking human lives for a living.
“After more than 50 years of helping women to have safe abortions at my private medical practice, Boulder Abortion Clinic, we have closed and have stopped scheduling patients. This was a very difficult decision with many factors, as this practice is my life’s work. It has given me and others helping me great satisfaction and meaning in our lives. It could not have happened without my superb staff of highly professional and dedicated doctors, nurses, counselors, lab technicians, patient coordinators, administrative staff, records managers, and others beginning on January 22, 1975.
Many of those doing this work with me have been with me for decades. They have shown the utmost courage and commitment to the women who have been our patients in the face of great personal danger from the constant threat of lethal anti-abortion violence that we have experienced. They have shown great personal strength in supporting women and their families in the worst moments of their lives.
It has been a privilege to do this work for almost 55 years. It has been a privilege to know the many exceptional people in this field who were and are devoted to the highest standards of medical care for women and who are dedicated to the fundamental principle of reproductive freedom for everyone.
Although I love my work, I have wanted for years to be free from the operating room and the daily cares of a private medical practice. When I have a patient, I can’t do anything else. Her safety and well-being is my priority. Nothing else matters while her life is at stake. I must now leave this sacred commitment to others.
I remain committed to reproductive freedom for women, and I will find other ways to support that.”
A month or so ago I purchased Hern’s latest book. I think I wanted to understand what made him tick. How was it that he saw abortion as good? And how can a person brutally destroy that many living human beings for that long? After I read the introduction I remember praying for him at some point. I was not praying out of compassion for him. In my view, the phrase, “hurt people, hurt people” does not apply to him. Warren Hern had a perfectly privileged upbringing and performing abortions gave him “satisfaction” and “meaning,” and he viewed his work on women as “sacred”. He knew exactly what he was doing. No, I prayed for him because I wanted God to stop him from killing so many fully developed babies, and I wanted women to stop going to him. I was genuinely surprised this week when I heard that he was closing his clinic and no longer booking appointments. I am not surprised that God decided Hern was done killing.
God hears prayers, Christians. Please pray with me against our country’s love of abortion.
Pray for the minds of the women that choose them - that they would see through the lies to the truth of people and organizations that can help, and pray for the hardcore feminists that have no problem having abortions - pray that they would be hindered in getting them and be silenced in promoting them.
Pray that all abortionists would be hindered, exposed the minute they do something wrong or illegal, and that scales would fall from their eyes during their very next abortion so that they see that limb/torso/head as a part of a son or daughter created in the image of God
Pray that Planned Parenthood Federation of America would begin to fail as a business; that they would lose funding and be exposed when they are breaking the law. Pray for more severe laws regarding fetal tissue research and procurement.
The list could be chapters long of what we can pray for. And I’m not saying it was only my prayer that God heard that caused Hern to retire, obviously. I know millions of Christians are praying against abortion and have been for a long time. This blog post of Hern’s retirement is my encouragement to us all to keep praying fervently. Even fasting and praying if you are so led; that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
“And whatever you ask in My name, that I will do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. If you ask anything in My name, I will do it.” John 14:13-14
